the pilliga is the largest semi-arid, temperate woodland left in australia and the most extensive woodland west of the great dividing range. 90% of this once vast forest has been cleared and the pilliga is the majority of what is left. although the pilliga itself has been logged by forestry for many decades.
i slept out in a valley for 5 days along dandry creek.
captured on kamilaroi/gomeroi country, during the worst drought the pilliga forest has seen in 20 years.

currently there is a grand-scale coal seam gas project proposed in the pilliga by santos, if it goes ahead this will have catastrophic affects on the forest, it's surrounds, the underlying great artesian basin and the many sacred sites within.
